Recruitment, a broken process or uncaring
Hi
Its been a while since I made an entry in my blog but this issue has been bubbling under and I have now reached the point at which I need to vent / explain.
This entry will consist of 2 parts, the first one being based on my experience of recruitment companies who either want to place “the best engineer EVER” with me or attempting to create a dialogue with me.
Part 1
Firstly, as a University we are bound by certain purchasing rules which dictate that all suppliers must be of our recognised supplier list. This list has nothing to do with me and is controlled by purchasing. We have a process to get on this list, if you want to do business with us, find it and get on it….
Secondly, which for me is far more important, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH.
Of the 20 or so emails I get each day from recruitment organisations the following is a list of common errors:
My name is Peter Nicholson and my job title is Head of Infrastructure and Operations. Please don’t..
- start with ‘Dear Nicholson’
- ‘….as the Head of Infrastructure and Operations at NTU….’ – I already know that.
Get your database sorted and only send the email ONCE
Get the name of the University right
We don’t use AIX or Blackboard or Canvas or …
Don’t lie by starting with the line ‘After our conversation earlier….’
Another simple rule is that ALL vacancies at the University have to go though our recruitment process which means they are advertised on our website.
If people follow these simple rules I should never get another email from a recruitment company, in my dreams…..
Part 2 – coming soon
