What the hell are the Kelpies ?
During the October half term we decided to take Dot to see the Kelpies, which is something I had never heard of but H had wanted to see for ages. After a bit of research I found out what they were and found out that you can park in the carpark over night. It’s a long way just for the night so I also found a campsite north of Edinburgh where we could stop for another night. We would then make our way back stopping off just outside Grenta Green for a night just to break up the journey.
We left home about 3 and pootled our way along the A50 and then up the M6. After a couple of hours Dot wasn’t feeling very which manifested itself if rear end juddering when going over 70. We stopped on the hard shoulder to see of there was anything wrong ie braked binding etc but all looked ok. So the rest of our journey was at a nice sedate 60.
Eventually about 20:30 we arrived at the car park after driving through some rough looking areas to be met by these 2 stunning horses. A leisurely walk round to take some photos and then crank up the heater in Dot and watch a few episodes of Slow Horses – which by the way is fantastic. 3 episodes later and a quick run across the car park to the exceptionally clean public toilets and off to bed.
The next day we walked around the Kelpies again and read all about the artist etc and a nice walk around Helix park. About 11 we fired up Dot and went to see one of the local engineering miracle – the Falkirk Wheel.
To be continued………..
